As part of Elder Needs Law, PLLC ongoing effort to provide value to its elder care and medicaid planning clients and the general public, we will occasionally discuss services offered by third parties. The firm receives no compensation. I simply feature a service when I think it provides my readers with genuine value. Below is an excerpt provided by Janis Blenden, owner of A and B Counseling Services, LLC. What I love about A and B is that they provide free, in-home, counseling and therapy for the elderly, so long as they have Original Medicare. No co-pays, no deductibles to worry about, and they send a licensed therapist to your home or ALF nearly anywhere in Florida. Below is an excerpt provided directly by the company owner (slightly edited for this format).

A and B Counseling Services, LLC offers in home counseling to seniors residing in their own home, independent or assisted living facilities.

We use Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW’s) who are specially trained and use multiple therapeutic modalities to provide a person centered service.  We also specialize in helping families transition their loved ones into senior communities through supportive and transitional counseling.

Do you feel very tired, helpless and hopeless?  Are you sad most of the time and take no pleasure in your family, friends, or hobbies?  Are you having trouble working, sleeping, eating and functioning?  Have you felt this way for a long time?  If so, you may have depression.  A and B Counseling Services can help.

Anxiety Disorders affect about 40 million American adults 18 years and older in a given year, causing them to be filled with fearfulness and uncertainty.  Unlike the relatively mild, brief anxiety caused by a stressful event, anxiety disorders last at least 6 months and if untreated, can only get worse.  A and B Counseling can treat you for anxiety and related disorders.

Other common issues addressed are adjustment to a new medical diagnosis, family discord, aging and care issues, an abrupt move and a multitude of other symptoms that may develop. Our LCSW’s can also work with home health staff, nurses, doctors, facility staff, care managers and family to advocate and offer support.

Our LCSW’s are also fully knowledgeable with community resources which add another dimension to our services.

Seniors on hospice are also covered by our in home counseling services.

A and B Counseling Services accepts Medicare assignment. Services are billed through Medicare, so costs to the client are covered.  We also accept private pay for those without Medicare.

If you or someone you know has traditional Medicare and is struggling with life’s daily stressors please call, Janis Blenden, LCSW at 954-609-0022 or visit our website at and fill out the referral form.  All information is kept confidential and we adhere to the strictest HIPAA laws and regulations.

Our goals are to:

  • Promote wellness and independence
  • Reduce depression and anxiety
  • Assist in adjustment to new situations
  • Help to process grief and loss
  • Identify community resources
  • Find meaning and purpose in life
